Crown of Light

This book is a rich and varied collection of stories primarily set in the environment of Telugu speaking region of Andhra Pradesh in South India, originally written in Telugu language by Dr Suseela Somaraju, now translated into English by Kharidehal Venkata Rao. The stories are based on the experiences and observations on the life and culture of Telugu speaking people with some fictional embellishments added in the details. The stories are set in different time periods ranging from severe depression during Second World War to the present day. A myriad of personal, social and cultural themes, both traditional and modern are portrayed, with rich emotions, profound reflections and unforgettable characters. The stories are written in first person, to some extent in colloquial style common to Telugu works of fiction. A large amount of literary artistic license has been used to preserve the distinct flavour and poetic nature of Telugu language and style of expression, which gives the stories a unique, authentic aspect and which brings the characters vibrantly to life.
