Old Maw: The Legend of Miss Kessie, is a story filled with the undaunted spirit of Americans struggling for their independence, as a nation fights for its identity. Our country was built upon the diversity of its people. Our ethnicity is very complex and contains many different traditions. The purpose of this book is to remind us of the contribution made by those who carved a home out of a wilderness and to honor all heritages composing our American culture. We are a diverse people with many customs and it falls upon our shoulders to respect others’ heritage and to demand respect for our own.
