Root Cause Corrective Action

Root Cause Corrective Action is defined as the pursuit and identification of the underlying causes of a problem. It is at the heart of any diagnostic journey and problem solving process. When analysis of data is sufficient to prove a theory as a cause, root cause has been discovered. Determining a solution in any other way is not Root Cause Corrective Action. The objectives of this workshop are for students to be able to use an organized approach to problem solving through the RCCA process, be able to explain the difference between RCCA and improvement, and to know what tools are necessary to find root causes. Additionally, students will master using graphic tools to find root causes, and will practice using the RCCA process in a case study. The steps to Root Cause Corrective Action are: 1. Identify the problem 2. Diagnose the cause 3. Remedy the cause 4. Hold the gains Some of the tools covered in this workbook include flow diagrams, Pareto analysis, stratification, FMEA, cause-effect diagrams, and mistake proofing. This training is recommended for anyone involved in process improvement efforts including team leaders, department managers, and team members.
