Faith, Hope, or the Great Mortality

As the youngest son of a nobleman, Thomas de Parr is destined to become a monk at Tintern Abbey in southeast Wales. He lives a protected life behind the walls of a monastery as a ward of the abbot. The challenges of coming of age in 1348 are soon eclipsed by the greatest calamity man has ever known: the Great Mortality. Thomas travels to Bristow, England with the abbot of Tintern Abbey to meet Thomas's father and brother. Thomas has not seen his father in five years and dreads sharing the uncertainty he feels at becoming a monk. Thomas's brother, William, serves with King Edward III's army in Calais, England's newly won foothold on the continent. William schemes to get rich by arranging for the sale of wool at the port of Calais which he believes will soon be proclaimed the staple port for England's most valuable export. William's plan sets in motion a chain of events that leads to tragic consequences for Thomas and everyone Thomas knows. Life, love, and destiny are put to the test as Thomas comes face to face with the Great Mortality. Will his faith protect him? Or, will hope be all that stands between life and death? Follow Thomas as the unrelenting doom of his time slowly descends upon his world and throws everything he knows into turmoil.
