Contested Ground: An Administrative History of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska 1978 ? 2001

Born in the social and political turmoil surrounding the struggle over the fate of Alaska’s public lands, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve was, and in many respects remains, contested ground. This study identifies and clarifies the complex assortments of policies and issues that led to the creation of the park and have shaped its operations for the past two decades.
