Description

The Manufacturing Fundamentals program introduces and develops the student’s production knowledge/skills sets applicable to entry-level production technician jobs in the advanced manufacturing industry’s 14 sub-industries and prepares the student to sit for the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) assessments. The complete Manufacturing Fundamentals program is comprised of the following units:

  • Unit 1: Employability Skills
  • Unit 2: Safety Awareness
  • Unit 3: Production and Processes
  • Unit 4: Maintenance Awareness
  • Unit 5: Quality Assurance

Characteristics of the modern manufacturing facility include the need to produce high-quality products rapidly, cost-effectively, and with fewer employees. As a result, maintenance awareness has become every production technician’s responsibility. This unit provides you with the knowledge/skills sets (e.g., how to recognize and address the normal and abnormal sounds, vibrations, smells, visual appearance, etc., of the equipment on the production floor) pertaining to maintenance awareness. By developing these sets, you will become more productive and improve your ability to move up the production-workforce career ladder. The unit also prepares you to sit for the “Maintenance Awareness” assessment portion of the MSSC Production Technician certification examination.

A technician who has, and can put into practice, the proper maintenance knowledge/skills sets can save a company millions of dollars in unscheduled downtime and unnecessary equipment stoppages/failures. These sets are addressed in Unit 4, which is comprised of the following modules:

  • Module 1: Machine Fundamentals
  • Module 2: Machine Maintenance
  • Module 3: Electrical Fundamentals
  • Module 4: Electric Motor Fundamentals
  • Module 5: Fluid Power Fundamentals
  • Module 6: Pump Maintenance
  • Module 7: Bearing Maintenance
  • Module 8: Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
  • Module 9: Preventive Maintenance
  • Module 10: Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)

All training modules were developed to enhance your current knowledge of the subject matter. Each module is supplied with discussion items, case studies, and exercises to enhance your learning experience.
