‘Multidisciplinary Working in Medical Humanities: Theory, Methodology, Policy and Practice’ is based on an applied doctoral thesis, framed within a Cultural Historical Activity Theory and a Developmental Work Research approach, undertaken at the Department of Health at the University of Bath. Within the context of medical humanities differences and tensions can be construed as possibilities for collaborative and innovative change to illuminate and progress new understanding and practice within this domain. In this way new concepts and discourses are constructed and framed. This book is for people working within the area of medical humanities and presents a framework for connecting diverse interests, skills, knowledge, occupations and subject areas. It assists in breaking down the barriers and silos between groups which result in fragmented and demarcated working dynamics. It facilitates multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary working in order to create fruitful change processes between what might seem disconnected areas. Whilst the book has a specific focus on medical humanities it can apply to many other territories and organisation types which experience similar problematic dynamics and a need to effect change in practice to meet organisational and policy challenges.
