The race for Ankor's Heart begins in the aftermath of battle, and the company stands at its head. Kale is left in anguish and worry, for Esra has fled eastward without his consent, hoping to discover the answer to the strange vision he had in Shalim. Now he must decide, and quickly, whether to chase Esra, his son and the heir of Given Lightbringer, or else go north to the dragons of Hammerfell, the last living creatures to see the Heart. It is a heavy burden, but on his decision may fall the fate of Aarde. Meanwhile, in the east, Esra walks hidden roads towards the desolation of Golgetto. Worry plagues his path, and without his father he feels very much alone; but there are allies yet left in the ruins of the Sundering, and before the last lights of hope are fallen from the world, he will see them come to his aid.
