Bel ami

First published in 1885, this is the transcription of the original English translation of 1903. Bel Ami is one of the best satyres in the history of literature, following the spasmodic quest of an ambitious low level employee of a large Parisian bureaucracy of the second half of the XIX century, Georges Duroy. His success is built thanks to the intercessions of his lovers, shut out of the political scene but very much connected through their social activity and affairs, and to the collusive interests of finance, media and politics, much as it could in a modern day capital.
