Description

The 5,400-square-mile Black Mesa study area in northeastern Arizona contains a diverse topography that includes flat plains, mesas, and incised drainages (fig. 1). Black Mesa is a topographic high at the center of the study area that covers about 2,000 mi2. It has 2,000-foot-high cliffs on its northern and northeastern sides, but slopes gradually down to the south and southwest.
