Description

This report explains the August 24, 1996, rupture of a steel pipeline operated by Koch Pipeline Company, LP (Koch), which sent a butane vapor cloud into the surrounding residential area. The butane vapor ignited as two residents in a pickup truck drove into the cloud. The occupants of the truck died from thermal injuries. About 25 families were evacuated from the area. Damages related to the accident exceeded $217,000.
