A wolf running from his violent past, Shane stumbles upon the human woman destined to become his mate. Believing him delusional, Elisa is only convinced of his unbelievable story once Shane’s best friend Jeremy takes matters into his own hands. Overcome by the strong feelings Shane provokes, she soon realizes the far-fetched story he has attempted to convince her of is the truth. After accepting him for what he is, Elisa is brutally attacked by a rogue wolf and thrust into a life she isn’t prepared for. With Shane and Jeremy as her advocates, she learns their way of life and how to come to grips with the changes to her existence. Together, they become the new pack Shane has dreamt of and the family he has longed for. Confronted by the violent past, the three are plunged into a situation over which they have no control. When Shane finds he has been deceived by one of his own, he must decide the value of honesty versus that of loyalty. We stood together in silence and watched Jeremy’s chest move with every labored breath. I felt certain at any moment he would fail to inhale and just fade away but Shane assured me he would live. There was nothing else that could be done for him until it was time to clean the wounds and reapply fresh bandages again so we left him to rest. Nightfall had come and I could see the clouds hadn’t hidden the full moon from the dark night sky as I passed by the window. Its glow edged in around the drawn curtains and beckoned for me to get a closer look. A skiff of snow had fallen and hidden the remnants of the gruesome bloody incident beneath its crisp, clean whiteness; but as I squinted, I could still make out the form remaining as the only evidence something had taken place…other than my soreness and Jeremy’s tattered body. As if reading my mind, Shane’s hand came to rest on my shoulder as his body pressed protectively against mine. “I’ve got to get rid of it.” “The ground is too frozen to bury it………” I stammered as my voice faded. “I’ll burn it,” he stated and without delay pulled on his coat and went outside. Shane ignited the monstrous pile of broken lumber torn out of the cabin. He stood and stared into the flames as they swirled and danced before he heaved the lifeless form of the wolf into the center of the inferno. Watching as the blaze devoured the fur and blistered the skin of the beast, he could hear the sizzle and hiss as its flesh liquified into the fiery sea of flames. “Go back to hell where you came from,” he growled under his breath.
