Continuum

A long car trip listening to a science fiction audio book drew me to an obvious conclusion. As much as I loved fantasizing about time travel, the stories left me cold. Science fiction was too heavy on the fiction and too light on the science. I spent the next few hundred miles in quiet contemplation forming a concept for a time travel epic. It would focus on an eccentric professor known on campus to be obsessed by time travel, working with three of his students. He teaches a course each year presenting the status of his research intertwining his lectures with episodes from a developing plot. His lectures start with his basic philosophy of science, proceed through Classical Newtonian Physics, on into the space warping of Einstein's Relativity then to the spookiness of Quantum Mechanics. A pervasive theme of the lectures is to highlight the mysteries underlying our concept of reality. He then delves into an analysis of time and prospects for time travel presenting his class with an astonishing conclusion. Unknown to his class, his ideas have already been tested. A message has been launched into the deep future...and the future has answered. Our eccentric professor is now on a mission. It's exciting, it's educational, it's thought provoking. We're all trapped in the continuum.
