Description

The Law and The Lady (1875) Valeria marries Eustace although her family doesn't approve. A few days after the wedding, she discovers that her family may have had cause for their concern. Valeria's husband has been using a false name. When he refuses to discuss it, the couple cut short their honeymoon and return to London. Valeria discovers later that he was put on trial for poisoning his first wife, and that the court verdict was 'not proven' rather than 'not guilty'. Is Valeria's husband innocent of the crime? Valeria sets out to discover the truth. About The Author William Wilkie Collins (1824 – 1889) was an English novelist, playwright, and short story writer born into a family of painters.
