Smeltertown Shenanigans captures life in a small and provincial southwestern mining town in the 1950s and 1960s. During an era when history ushers a company-owned, racially segregated, and smelter-dominated town into the Viet Nam war and the British music invasion, a young boy finds gaping seams in the local social fabric of the day. His loyalty to older friends supersedes the ongoing efforts of his parents, the schools, and even the local police to influence his upstart behavior, and before long Hurley, New Mexico, has its hand's full dealing with mischief and small-town mayhem. Smeltertown Shenanigans is rich in Hurley history including rarely seen photos and full of lively and humorous stories that bring that colorful history to life.
