The History of the United States: A Christian Perspective

It is important that we understand history’s overall picture and not only its minute details. Consequently, Dr. Robert Spinney, an Associate Professor of History at Patrick Henry College, wrote this textbook for use in his PHC U.S. History classes. It is not encyclopedic and does not identify every important person, date, and event; rather, it emphasizes broad trends and major aspects of the American story. Additionally, this textbook reflects Dr. Spinney’s understanding of what it means to do history as a Christian. He seeks to always tell a true story, no matter how difficult or uncomfortable that might be. His prayer is that this textbook will help students to develop their abilities to apply a Biblical worldview to everything they analyze.
