Dying Embers

The embers of hate and bigotry lay smoldering beneath the ashes of a century. Glowing dimly, still hot, it would take only a wind to blow away the ash and fan them to flaming life. That wind did come and the flames rose. Set during the time of school desegregation, ‘Dying Embers’ is a story of love, hate, terrible tragedy and immense courage. It is a story of growing up. Six young people cling to their friendship while the winds of racial bigotry blow and rage around them. They are forced to confront those whose hatred is born out of ignorance and self-loathing. As their world is painfully remolded, they mature and gain a deeper understanding of who they are...and of courage. Along the way, a young man who had never known friendship learns it in an uncommon way from an unlikely source. Together, they discover that the bonds of friendship have no color. Maturing can be a difficult process for the young. For the traditions and culture of an entire society, it can be, it was, excruciatingly painful.
