Throughout the depression years of the 1930's, the upper Midwest states were challenged with hardships, droughts, and unimaginable personal losses. Unlike today, there were few governmental programs to provide relief or assistance. Farmers, in particular had few choices except to live day-to-day on their ravaged land or to uproot their families and move to cities and find whatever work was available. While Doug's family struggled to keep the family and farm together, each of the twelve children were impacted in different ways. Doug's book, "The Depression Kid Grows Up," chronicles memories of his childhood and beyond. Every life has a story.
