Our spiritual senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch must be exercised and developed every day. Heb 5:14 says: But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, even those who because of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Just like exercising our physical body in a gymnasium, we constantly need to exercise our spiritual senses so that we can use them effectively. God the Holy Spirit has to open up the revelatory realm to us in order to help us access it. He needs to reveal to us in the spirit what we cannot experience with our physical senses. The prophetic forms part of this revelatory realm that God wants to open up for every one of His children. In 1 Cor 14:1 God says: Follow after charity and desire spiritual things, but rather that you may prophecy. On the one hand we want to explore what prophecy is from a Biblical point of view. What does the Bible say about the function of the prophetic gift, about discernment, about false prophets and the role a prophetic word should play in our lives? Prophecy is a gift of the Holy Spirit. It does not belong to people. Anyone can be used in the gift of prophecy provided he is a born-again believer, filled with the Holy Spirit and open to the moving in the supernatural
