Life's Little Ironies: Selected Short Stories (Immortal Classics)

Life's Little Ironies is a collection of tales written by Thomas Hardy, originally published in 1894, and republished several times with a slightly different collection of stories. The phrase "life's little ironies" is now proverbial, but it was coined by Hardy as the title for this, his third volume of short stories. Unified by his quintessential irony, strong visual sense, uncompromising realism and engaging characters, these stories deal with the tragic and the humorous, the metaphysical and the magical. This collection includes The Son's Veto, which Hardy regarded as his best short story, On the Western Circuit, which was his wife’s favourite, and the series of linked stories, which come under the heading A Few Crusted Characters.
