Even if you never open the book, my hope is that just looking at the cover will remind you to "think it through..." It’s tough loving and supporting an addict on their actions alone so the last thing we want to do is add more turmoil to our life with our own destructive decisions. Behaviors like rescuing them from a drug house, the back alley, the casino, the bar, the hotel room, or even off the street corner. Or maybe paying off debt, keeping family secrets a secret, and sharing your home. Are they healing or hurting? You’re invited to come along with me as I share a few of my own stories where my choices added more chaos to the chaos and included, going into 'the danger zone'. Just maybe, you will learn from my mistakes, make better choices than I did, and then proceed to live your life, with caution. ******************** “Follow me,” I heard him say. “I’ll take you up to look for your husband.” I guess they realized I wasn’t about to leave. Soon I was following this scraggly old man through the bar and beyond the locked gate. I was feeling pretty bold until I realized not only did it take a key to get through the 10-foot metal gate, it took a key to get out as he locked the gate behind us. “No quick escape!” I thought to myself. “And no quick rescue.” My stomach was starting to churn as we continued up the littered and sticky stairwell which led to a variety of doors. But, I was here now. The scraggly old man said he would “protect and take care of me,” so no worries, right? I had to make sure he wasn’t here, wasn’t overdosing. I had come this far!Even if you never open the book, my hope is that just looking at the cover will remind you to "think it through..."
