An unknown benefactor invites a diverse assortment of singles to a New Year's Eve matchmaking ball. Scientist Vivienne DeNoue, a woman of reason and logic, ignores the invite, considering the event frivolous and a waste of time. Vivienne denies inventor Brian Cord his New Year's Eve opportunity to meet Vivienne, but Fate grants him a second chance.
