Aging in British Columbia: Burden or Benefit?

British Columbia has acquired a reputation as a province that attracts seniors, and, therefore, it is a common perception that there are a lot of seniors living in British Columbia. Another common perception among Canadians is that the population aging trend constitutes a challenge, a problem, or even a crisis. Given these two perceptions, the trend toward a relatively high concentration of seniors is often judged in negative terms. The purpose of this book is to examine these two perceptions. The first - that British Columbia has a high concentration of seniors relative to other Canadian provinces. The second - that British Columbia's proclivity for attracting seniors is burdensome rather than a benefit.
