Description ▲
Increasing numbers of children infected by HIV/AIDS are attending Canadian schools. It is vital that schools are prepared to meet the needs of these children and their families. Children diagnosed with HIV/AIDS experience psychological, social and developmental difficulties associated with infection, which will have educational implications. The objectives of the study upon which this book is based were to (a) identify the perceptions and experiences of the parents regarding interactions with the schools which have had an impact on the child and family's quality of life, and (b) clarify how schools can best prepare to meet the needs of children with HIV/AIDS and their families, and accommodate and support them. Throughout the discussions, recommendations were provided for school systems.
