Fearsome Edifice

Fearsome Edifice looks at the decoration of the interiors of church buildings. We discover that different self-identities have informed the house of God wherein the people of God celebrate God's re-entry into human time and space; liturgically, ritually, politically, and personally God occupies our spatial/temporal continuum as His own. The decoration has a double function, rising as expression of a people's self-image and constitutive of the next step in that self-awareness in relationship to Church and to God. So the decoration of the church both follows and leads the people.
