Center activities provide practice in beginning reading skills and are ideal for small group and individual practice. These centers are easy to store in colorful gift bags or folders. The skills practiced include the following: visual discrimination, color words, positional words, rhyming words, word families (2 centers), following directions, alphabetical order, categorization, real and make-believe, initial and final consonants, and beginning story-writing.
