The four sections of this book go in to details about the following steps in the wastewater treatment process:
- Wastewater Treatment Overview provides information on the importance of wastewater treatment, the characteristics of wastewater and sources, elements of sampling programs, the fundamental elements of a conventional wastewater treatment system, and the role of an operator in treating wastewater.
- Preliminary Treatment explains the components and purpose of the preliminary treatment process at a typical wastewater treatment plant: septage receiving stations, screening, grinders, grit removal systems, flow management, and odor control.
- Primary Treatment covers the major concepts associated with primary treatment: components and performance efficiencies of primary clarifiers, considerations for sludge and scum removal, and key troubleshooting and maintenance of primary treatment processes.
- Natural Treatment Systems covers various types of natural treatment systems such as stabilization lagoons, infiltration systems, floating aquatic plant ponds, and constructed wetlands.
