Public Ethics for a Pluralistic Society: Contrasting Visions of America's Religious and Moral Foundations

In recent years a number of thinkers have argued for a religiously grounded public ethic which legitimizes American republican institutions and gives meaning to the common life of American political society. The problem is that lack of theoretical clarity has impeded this recent discussion, particularly as it relates to questions surrounding the meaning, value, and significance of pluralism in American society.
