Josie and Yohiko: Blood Sisters

Josie Blair was an orphaned Nez Perce Indian girl who was adopted by the Pitt River Valley Blairs. Yohiko Sakuma was the daughter of Japanese immigrants, who came to the Valley as a teacher. Although there was an eleven year difference in their ages, they were constant companions. Josie had an inborn talent for art, and Yohiko was an outstanding writer. Their combined efforts produced a number of children's books and they were well known in literary circles. Mystery and intrigue surrounded Josie, since she possessed unexplainable knowledge of Native American lore and culture. Josie introduced Yohiko to the 'spirit world, and they underwent a ritual and became Blood Sisters.
