The Osha II

Following his classic, THE OSHA - Secrets of the Yoruba Lucumi Santeria Religion in the United States and the Americas, Julia Garcia Cortez has written The OSHA II.   OSHA II is intended to stand alone as a singular work and study guide for those interested in gaining a deeper appreciation for the intricacies and nuances of the Yoruba Lucumi Santeria religion. As a follow-up, OSHA II advances with an essential approach to the oral traditions of The Yoruba Lucumi Santeria. It abounds with legends, stories and tales which are central to Yoruba culture.   Emerging from this unique oral tradition is the APATAKI presented here. The APATAKI are shaped and structured religious text that contextualizes the message of the Orishas; thereby putting into perspective what the Orishas say. It renders a precise message essential to the divination process of the Priests and Priestesses of Osha. These are in fact the sacred text which the Priest of Osha rely on to interpret the message of the Orishas.   Within the Yoruba Lucimi Santeria, one invariably encounters Lucumi expressions and terminology. Mr. Garcia informs us through a thorough and meticulous chapter on Lucumi vocabulary delineating a useful and necessary link.   Mr. Garcia-Cortez has more than 50 years proficiency as a Priest of Osha and shares with the reader a part of his observance - the Daily Reading for each of the 365 days of the year including their accompanying proverbs and meanings. These readings are transcribed and enumerated herein without alteration as they were presented to him by his Godfather.   For OSHA I and II, we owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Garcia-Cortez (Obba Bi) who graciously continues to share his wealth of knowledge with the vested priest and priestesses of The Orishas.
