Description ▲
I am 81 years old, and have been asked to tell my WWII experiences, and the years thereafter. These happenings between 1943 and 1949 were the years of my seagoing adventures. During WWII, I was Third Mate on the steamship U.S.S. Cape Isabel. This ship was involved in three previous invasions, before my assignment. This vessel was allocated to the U.S. Marine Corps in the first invasion (Palau Islands). In the second invasion (Iwo Jima) we delivered troops and cargo for the Fifth Marine Division. In the third invasion (Okinawa), we delivered troops and cargo for the Second Marine Division. The three typhoon experiences occurred after the end of World War II. The voyages on the U.S.A.T. Admiral William S. Sims took place between 1946 and 1947. My U.S. Navy career was from 1948 through the 1949.
