(Allan) William Colt MacDonald was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1891. His career became a long string of successes in pulp magazines, hardcover books, films, and eventually original and reprint paperback editions. The Three Mesquiteers, MacDonald's most famous characters, were introduced in 1933 in Law of the Forty-Fives.
