Think Adoption First! The Canine Series

While there is nothing wrong with buying a dog, there is everything right with adopting a dog. The belief that dogs in shelters are just unwanted animals and never did have a home is simply not true. Every dog in every shelter across America has a story to tell. While many of the dogs found in shelters are mixed breeds, there are many shelters that provide temporary homes for true purebreds. You can find almost every size, color and breed imaginable. Whatever your preference, there will undoubtedly be one who will fit your bill. Adoption is two-fold. It is a connection between two souls. For the animal, they know. They know you are the one who took them from the shelter and gave them a home. They know you are the one who gave them that second chance. Although they cannot speak the words, they show their appreciation by the love and devotion they give you every day. For the human, it is the emotional satisfaction that comes from having a loving companion who exists due to the gracious, non-selfish, wonderful deed they have done by adopting. It is the joy inside of the heart that comes from giving an animal the opportunity for a new life. That is the human-animal bond.
