Whether or not you remember the scene in the film Sex and the City in which Carrie read from a book of love letters to Mr. Big doesn't really matter. What is of import is that these letters live again in this book, complete with pictures and autobiographical information about the lovers who penned them. Love Letters of Great Men includes love notes by such notables as Lord Byron, John Keats, Henry IV of France, Voltaire, and Napoleon Bonaparte, who wrote to Josephine, "I awake consumed with thoughts of you..." Love letters from artists such as van Gogh, Mozart, and Beethoven, who famously penned, 'Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved...' It is no surprise that the feelings aroused by love have not changed very much over the centuries. What is surprising and endearing is the expression given to those feelings by some of the most articulate fellows who have ever lived.
