When she meets her occasional love interest Tyler Goldman, Alida is introduced to the world Guardians-a world of violence and chaos-despite the best efforts of her sister Lela, who begins to lose control of a mysterious ability. On top of it all, a California based securities tycoon hatches a mad plan to create Guardians of his own.
