Rory's Story

By the age of four, Rory Hoffman was the official drummer for his family's band. A year later, he played on his first record album. This is the story of how multi-instrumentalist, Nashville studio musician and performer, as well as a two-time winner of the ICMA Musician of the Year award, learned to not just live but thrive without sight, in a world full of adventure and opportunity. Rory, the third of four blind children, always considered himself normal. He rarely followed the typical timeline for a child of his age and usually learned to do things differently from everyone else, like holding the guitar upside down and backward, laying on his lap, simply because it was easier. By his thirteenth birthday, he could play as many different instruments, including the saxophone, harmonica, piano, accordion, and banjo.
