Long before the Church of England began to ordain women even to the diaconate, women were ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament in the Free Churches such as the Baptist, Methodist and Pentecostal Churches as well as the Salvation Army. "This is Our Story", the first book of its kind, tells the long and varied story of women's ordination in Britain in the Free Churches. The theology and practice of ordination differs between the churches, and the story of women's ordination will draw on the rich diversity of church life in Britain. Often women's ministry pushes at theological and social boundaries, and the book will highlight the frequently radical nature of women's contribution. In a unique combination of the stories of individual women and reflective essays, this book adds an important chapter to the history of Christianity in twentieth century Britain and maps out some important agendas for the future.
