Shortly after 9/11, Shirlee Gentles's oldest son, Marshall, enlisted in the US Navy. He excelled there, receiving commendations from his superiors as he climbed the ranks. Then a surprise phone call from a naval hospital in San Diego where Marshall was stationed changed everything. Marshall had been acting erratically and out of character. He had stopped eating.
