Check any list of ‘great men’ of the 20th Century and you’re sure to find Theodore ‘Teddy” Roosevelt ranked near the very top. Postage stamps bear his image; children’s books tell of his deeds; and schools bear his name -- as do parks, libraries, a dam, an island, a ship and, of course, the “Teddy Bear.” There is just one wee-little problem with this flattering historical narrative of Theodore Roosevelt: It is mostly puffed-up fakery.
