What does feminism mean in the modern Islamic world? What does liberation mean to the hundreds of millions of women who pray in the language of Arabia? In order to answer this question, Faisal al Yafai set out on a journey across thousands of miles of the Islamic world. From the bars of the Beirut, through the mosques of Saudi Arabia, to the very of edges of Indonesia. Along the way he investigates illegal rave parties in Riyadh, finds the Iranian equivalent of Cosmopolitan and is smuggled into a safe-house for Pakistani victims of violence. He finds a complex world of women caught between the burqa and the bikini, neither caged nor saved.
