Principles of Qur'an Commentary is a work of great importance in the field of Qur'anic exegetical theory. It sets out Ibn Taymiyyah's approach to tafsir that influenced medieval Muslim theologians who prepared commentaries on the Qur'an and continues to have an impact upon thinkers today.
Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 1328), was an Islamic philosopher, scholar, theologian and an Imam of the Hanbali school. Recognised as one of the greatest scholars in Islamic history, he is celebrated not only for his original writings but also his contributions in battle against the Mongols.
