Description

"Volume 10" is divided into three broad areas. First, the early monitoring of infants at risk. Chapters review issues involved in the developmental screening of children and then specifically at these issues in relation to language disorders. This is followed by a review of the issue of low birth weight infants. Second, three chapters deal with childhood injuries, the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. They provide discussions of the ways of influencing both parent and child behaviour in order to prevent accidents and improve health, of children's use of car safety devices, and a look at the sometimes hazardous role of baby walkers from a developmental perspective. The remaining chapters discuss aspects of chronic illness or developmental disabilities. They examine the psychosocial behavioural problems facing children with spina bifida and cystic fibrosis, and discuss the professional service side of chronic illness.
