"Alcohol Problems" provides a practical working handbook for all those who counsel people with drinking problems. It outlines the theoretical origins of harmful drinking; describes the nature and type of difficulty that the drinker's personality presents; and offers practical advice to help the drinker come to terms with the issue. This theoretical discussion provides a base from which practical counselling skills are introduced and, through case studies, advises on practical management to help the drinker, their family and the helpers involved. Whilst recognizing the need at times for specialist input, it acknowledges the important role that those with day to day contact with drinking problems have, and goes some way to empowering them to deal with this challenge more effectively.
