At the start of this book the Range Rover was already 15 years old. During the next 10 years it was developed as it had never been developed before. Firstly with refinements to the V8 and then a turbo diesel. Later came the 3.9 V8 and a larger turbo diesel and then economy in the shape of the Tdi turbo diesel. Meanwhile the Range Rover was gradually going up-market into the luxury bracket. Many of these changes came from US demand where it was a great success, including the development of a long-wheelbase version. The second generation was announced in 1994 but the original continued until its 25th anniversary in 1995.
