Challenge and Change in the Information Society

Information delivery and use is being challenged by both social and technological developments and this has caused a fundamental and ongoing rethink of the role of information providers in society. This text provides a rounded, multi-perspective view of today's information society, covering key areas of discussion within the information society debate. It gives an overview of each issue whilst at the same time offering a deeper level of discussion, debate and analysis. The contributions are divided into five sections encompassing broad themes. Part 1 outlines theories of the information society, Part 2 discusses policy and organizational perspectives, Part 3 addresses the technological imperative, Part 4 considers the implications of the information society and the individual and Part 5 looks at professional issues.
