Preparing for Professional Practice (Midwifery)

This book originated at the request of numerous midwifery students who recognised the need for a book that addressed the professional dimensions of their practise. Midwifery students have requested a book that not only provides them with hard facts, but one that guides them through their everyday experiences and challenges their thought processes. This book has been developed for students to encourage them to consider not only the evidence that supports practice but also the essential statutory guidance that shapes their preparation as midwives. This book provides a foundation of knowledge on education, research, practice and policy, and assists student midwives to understand the tensions between these four elements and their personal experiences. Each chapter is a rich tapestry of personal experiences and clinical practice blended with policy imperatives to demonstrate the progress being made in maternity services.
