This volume examines the political structures, economic development, structural change, demographic dimensions of development, issues of ecological balance and resource use, trends in cultural expression, and the changing anthropological mosaic in the period of the "new order" in Indonesia. The country's development path and its achievements are debated, and the contents of this volume reflect the diversity of opinion. No attempt has been made to forge a consensus of views on the many contentious issues examined.
