Description ▲
The Workshop on Endocrine Disruption in Invertebrates: Endocrinology, Testing, and Assessment, held in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands, brought together more than 40 scientists from Europe, Japan, and North America. The objectives of the workshop were to increase the basic understanding of invertebrate endocrinology as it relates to endocrine disruption, determine the applicability of invertebrates in testing for the endocrine disruption mechanism, and determine the applicability of invertebrates as sentinels or monitors for potential environmental changes due to endocrine disruption. In order to address these objectives, the workshop participants were divided into three major work groups: endocrinology, laboratory testing, and field assessment. The workshop also identified data gaps and areas in which additional research is needed. This publication details workshop findings and suggests areas for future research.
