Join in the adventures of naturalist Bruce Calhoun as he confronts a pack of hungry wolves in Alaska, meets a grizzly bear face to face, risks a shark attack on Australia's Great Barrier Reef and wanders lost in the Amazon. Experience the terror of being stalked by a Jaguar in the remote Costa Rican rainforest, and the anguish of falling hopelessly in love with a beautiful French singer in Canada. But humorous romantic miscues and death-defying escapades are only a part of the story. Through a series of chance encounters with extraordinary individuals, the author is slowly drawn into the world of endangered tropical rainforests, becoming aware of their vital importance and evolving into a devoted conservationist.
In 1988, Calhoun founded Save the Rainforest, Inc., a teacher-student organization dedicated to promoting education and conservation of the world's tropical rainforests. Mr. Calhoun serves as its president, speaking at international conferences, consulting with conservation groups in the tropics, producing educational videos and slide shows, and overseeing a travel-education program that sends hundreds of enthusiastic participants to Latin America each summer.
