Description ▲
In this two act, dream play comedy, The Butcher's Apron, Charles Tidler presents an alchemical and absurdist portrait of the visionary Swedish playwright August Stringberg. Stringberg has his heart chopped out by a doppleganger and pursues the trail of his most vital organ to the birthplace of Expressionism, 1890s Berlin, where he discovers that his double has fallen head-over-heels in love with the young and beautiful theatre critic and feminist, Frida Uhl. First presented at the Banff Playwrights Colony workshop in a reading, The Butcher s Apron also appeared as a CBC Radio Drama production and had its official premier production with Theatre Passe Muraille in Toronto in 1990. This first printed edition was published to coincide with its revival by Theatre Inconnou in Victoria, British Columbia.
